Katie Boulter Enjoys Sweetest Win, Taylor Fritz Fights Back
Wimbledon
July 1, 2025
Katie Boulter simply wasn’t prepared to go out in a blaze of glory or follow the script.
Her Wimbledon 2025 journey was not expected to survive her Centre Court appearance against ninth seed Paula Badosa.
And after a wobbly second set, it looked as though a shock opening win was indeed beyond her.
Katie Boulter chose that moment to summon the inner child and make more Wimbledon dreams come true.
And Centre Court spectators knew they had witnessed one of the great Wimbledon 2025 moments on the very first day as Boulter battled through 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
The legendary Martina Navratilova said: ‘That was perhaps the sweetest win of her career. It doesn’t get much better than that. Especially right here on Centre Court.’
Boulter didn’t disagree. She commented: ‘This court is what every British child dreams about playing on and winning on.
‘For me it’s a dream come true every time I get to step out here. I saw the scheduling and I was so excited – I felt like a little girl again. I’m happy to be through and glad I got the win today.’
And Boulter’s dream may continue. She faces a lucky loser next in Argentina’s Solana Sierra. She isn’t even in the top one hundred – but Boulter will know she can’t be underestimated.
Meanwhile Taylor Fritz can still picture progress after an extraordinary fightback against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on No1 Court.
Seemingly jaded after his Eastbourne triumph, the American fell two sets behind. But he summoned his inner warrior to leave the match in the balance overnight at 6-7 (6-8), 6-7 (8-10), 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
Katie Boulter and Taylor Fritz are just two of the stars already taking centre stage at Wimbledon 2025.
Today the likes of Jack Draper and Jannik Sinner will experience the magical drama of the All England Club.
