Jannik Sinner Aims to End Recent Run of Carlos Alcaraz Defeats

Uncategorized

June 7, 2025

Jannik Sinner doesn’t tend to show discomfort on a tennis court. The mountain man has ice running through his veins.

But he is uncomfortable about losing his last four matches to fellow French Open finalist Carlos Alcaraz – and six of the last eight if you go back a little further.

That’s why the Italian is on a mission to show why he is now hitting the kind of heights that even the magical Alcaraz can’t reach. We will soon find out.

Jannik Sinner against Carlos Alcaraz will have the entire world enthralled. And if Wimbledon 2025 also comes down to a gladiatorial battle between these tennis supermen, no one will complain.

Don’t be at all surprised if Centre Court hosts another epic instalment in this mind-blowing rivalry in a few weeks.

But who will win in Paris? Neither man has ever lost a Grand Slam final. But losing to Alcaraz is something Sinner knows he has done far too often.

Jannik said on Friday night: ‘Sunday is going to be very, very difficult. My head-to-heads lately, they don’t look great against Carlos.

‘But I’m happy to be in the final and let’s see what I can do. One day off and then try to prepare for the match.’

Carlitos will not be disappointed that a defiant Novak Djokovic stretched Sinner beyond three hours before Jannik closed out his hugely entertaining 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) victory on Philippe-Chatrier.

He well have seen how close Novak came to taking the world number one into a fourth set, too.

And Sinner really was there for the taking on that third set point, a shot that flew agonisingly wide for the desperate Serb.

Alcaraz might also wonder why a couple of unsuccessful drop shots by Novak early on apparently deterred the greatest player the world has ever seen from pursuing the tactic.

Carlitos will probably aim to test Sinner’s back-to-front mobility more severely. He will open the court up, even if Jannik reaches his dying offerings in time.

The baseline slugfest will always underpin such variations. And a five-set war of attrition isn’t unlikely.

Will Alcaraz have just too much for Sinner, the more gruelling the contest becomes? Jannik is not long back on the scene.

But Sinner’s progress has been remarkable and his self-belief unshakable. Alcaraz will have to bring his stratospheric best to notch a fifth successive win.

It’s really too close to call – and that’s the beauty of this growing rivalry. The better Sinner becomes, the more likely he is to redress the balance against the Spaniard in time.

Expect this classic battle of wills to continue in London. We can’t wait.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are taking tennis to a whole new level.

To watch them up close and personal simply takes the breath away. The speed and power is beyond comprehension.
