Arthur Fery and Taylor Fritz Storm Through at Wimbledon 2026
Wimbledon
July 7, 2026
Arthur Fery savoured his magical moment with an engaging smile, as Centre Court rose to acclaim a new British idol.
Few of those cheering so delightedly had heard of Fery before this year. It didn’t matter. In the absence of Jack Draper and Sir Andy Murray, Wimbledon had been gifted the home-spun hero it craved.
‘I grew up about five minutes from here,’ said Fery, who had just performed with such nerveless poise in front of his own boyhood hero, Roger Federer.
King Arthur took to Centre Court as though he had been playing there all his life, instead of looking longingly at the stadium from the streets outside.
When he wanted the crowd to yell even louder, he waved his arms to summon more passion. Everyone obliged joyously.
And when the underdog went a break down to elegant veteran Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth, Fery fed off the atmosphere to battle back and conjure a fititng conclusion.
Arthur Fery will play his quarter-final on Wednesday against Flavio Cobolli, a man he beat in the first round of the Australian Open.
British fans will be starting to dream impossible dreams. But for now, their fresh-faced gladiator, who will be 24 next week, could just enjoy the best moment of his career so far.
The feeling of sheer sporting romance seemed even more powerful because Arthur had done it the hard way.
Fery said: ‘It’s been the story of the tournament for me. I was really close to losing in the last round – and again today.
‘A break down in the fourth, just trying to keep fighting, having a good attitude – and it paid off. I played really well with my back against the wall.’
His 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-7) victory created one of the great Centre Court moments of modern times.
And America’s Taylor Fritz will also be hoping to do battle on the greatest tennis stage of them all after winning through to the quarters in emphatic style.
Fritz found it surprisingly easy to see off Alexander Bublik 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, 6-4 on No1 Court. It looks as though he will face French Open champion Sascha Zverev next.
The German was two sets ahead of Jiri Lehecka when their match was suspended overnight.
Arthur Fery and Taylor Fitz will be massive attractions as Wimbledon 2026 nears its dramatic conclusion. Will you be there for the biggest matches of them all?
