Tommy Paul Faces Carlos Alcaraz in Blockbuster Showdown at US Open

Tommy Paul has the ultimate tennis reward for causing an upset in a thrilling five-setter at the US Open.
The American will take on defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.
Twentieth seed Paul defeated Alexander Bublik, a man ranked five places above him, in a typical New York marathon.
The underdog outlasted Bublik for fitness to triumph 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3 and served up sixteen aces.
Alcaraz had it easier against China’s Wu Yibing – but did come under tremendous pressure midway through the first set.
Awesome defence from Carlitos helped him gain the ascendancy – and he never looked back. The 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 score line probably doesn’t do his opponent justice, though.
Still, all eyes are now looking ahead to what promises to be a scintillating contest at Flushing Meadows.

But in the Big Apple you would think Tommy has the biggest chance he has ever had against the world’s most talented player.
Alcaraz isn’t quite back to his very best yet – even though he is more than pleased with his progress so far.
‘I’m playing better than I thought I would on my comeback,’ said Carlitos. ‘And I’m hoping to play even better in my next match.
‘Tommy has an advantage because he is playing at home. But I hope playing five sets has left him feeling a little tired.’
Paul knows he will have to come out with all guns blazing. He hasn’t always been able to find his best game against the young master.
But Tommy said: ‘We’ve had some pretty good matches. One really bad beatdown at the French Open. Obviously he’s doing pretty well coming right back to competition.
‘I’m going to have to play some pretty good tennis if I want to win that match. But I’m going to do my best. Hopefully I can.
‘I like to think of myself as someone who always thinks I can beat those players,’ said the man who took down Alexander Zverev in Cincinnati a few weeks ago.
Tommy Paul is just as dangerous on grass. We can’t wait to see him strut his stuff at Wimbledon 2027.
