Novak Wins Ninetieth Title To Qualify For ATP Finals

October 10, 2022

Novak Djokovic is fresh and ready to go at a time in the tennis calendar when others could already be reflecting on a long season.

The super Serb just beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 in the Astana Open final in Kazakhstan.

In truth, the previous match had been tougher for Novak, before Daniil Medvedev surprisingly retired at one set apiece.

Tsitsipas crumbled in the eighth game of the first set and from that moment there was only going to be one winner.

The glamorous Greek needs to examine his mindset in finals after he lost all nine he has played of late.

But there has never been an issue with Novak’s mental strength – and now the other participants in the 2022 ATP Finals had better watch out.

‘I could not ask for a better restart to the season,’ Djokovic said later.

‘I’m super pumped and motivated to end the season as well as I have done these past couple of weeks.’

Novak looks certain to hit top form in time to defend his title at Wimbledon 2023 too.

Few would now bet against Novak reaching the top three of all-time title winners.

He now stands just two behind Rafael Nadal (92) – and he is coming within range of Ivan Lendl (94).

Jimmy Connors is still way out ahead on 109. But Djokovic would dearly love to catch up with Roger Federer on 103.

He said he always ‘dared to dream’ that he would win so many titles. And we can be sure he is still dreaming of claiming many more – even at the age of 35.

Meanwhile the exciting Taylor Fritz beat his compatriot and close friend Frances Tiafoe to take the Japan Open by a nail-biting 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2).

Fritz now breaks into the top ten for the first time at number eight. And he seems to be going from strength to strength this year.

Americans like Fritz and Tiafoe will be flying by next summer and Wimbledon 2023.

It could be a very special year at The Championships.

Last chance to see Rafael Nadal and Sir Andy Murray? It really could be.

Will you come to Wimbledon 2023 to witness the greats on the historic Centre Court while you still can?

We can help with that.
