American Tennis Stars Are in the Spotlight at Wimbledon 2025

Wimbledon

July 4, 2025

American tennis stars are always a big part of Wimbledon and the dramatic twists and turns at the All England Club.

Wimbledon 2025 is no different as we move towards the first weekend on the glorious grass.

Back in the day it was the infamous John McEnroe who used to challenge the authority of the officials.

This year it is Ben Shelton following in that rebellious tradition with understandable frustration.

American tennis stars will always say what they think – and there is often something refreshing about their uninhibited attitude.

Ben Shelton was furious at being left just one game from victory when his match against Rinky Hijikata was suspended on Thursday night for bad light.

The rising superstar had to be pacified by officials, who understood his frustration but saw no other way.

And if Shelton had converted match points in the previous game, he wouldn’t have been left in the lurch.

Ben will argue that the match should have been suspended after the first two sets if this scenario was on the cards. That’s what the players seemed to expect at the time.

But Shelton will get the chance to close out quickly on Friday when the match resumes at 6-2, 7-5, 5-4.

Meanwhile Taylor Fritz will open the show on Centre Court on Friday when he plays the dangerous Spaniard, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

American tennis stars will therefore play an important part in Friday’s story at Wimbledon 2025.

And Danielle Collins will fly the flag the following day when she takes on former world number one Iga Swiatek.

Collins won’t allow herself to be intimidated by the talented Pole. Iga hasn’t shone on grass quite as effectively she has on other surfaces historically.

Following the Fritz match on Friday, Centre Court will get to see the reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz and home favourite Emma Raducanu.

Alcaraz should come through relatively untroubled by Jan-Lennard Struff. But Raducanu faces one of the biggest tests of her career when she takes on Aryna Sabalenka.

Emma insists she can go into that one pressure-free. But British fans will still be hoping she can pull off an upset

Following the disappointment of Jack Draper’s unlikely exit to Marin Cilic, they want fresh success to cheer.

Have you booked your seats to see the American tennis stars and all the other big names at Wimbledon 2025?

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are still on course to give us that dream final repeat of Roland Garros.

Novak Djokovic is also still in the mix as he seeks an historic 25th Grand Slam title at what is often a happy hunting ground for the Serb.
