Jannik Sinner Scores First Win of Season over Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner recently said he wakes up wondering how he can start beating Carlos Alcaraz again.
Perhaps the cool Italian will sleep a little more easily after his first win of the season over the stellar Spaniard.
The so-called Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia was only an exhibition match and won’t count on their head-to-head record.
But psychologically it could be regarded as significant. Sinner was beginning to think Alcaraz was always going to have his number.
And how could Jannik go into the biggest Grand Slam of 2025 and do battle with Carlitos on grass with genuine self-belief, if he couldn’t triumph against his rival on any other surface?
Jannik Sinner will be more confident now of giving Carlos Alcaraz a classic battle on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2025.
Alcaraz has been champion these last two years at the All England Club. But Sinner is regarded as the best in the world now – and his Wimbledon campaign in 2025 could be definitive.
Sinner versus Alcaraz is the final we all crave for Wimbledon 2025. And match-ups between these young superstars dominate Jannik’s thoughts too.
He explained: ‘We try to push ourselves to the limit. I wake up in the morning trying to understand ways to beat him.
‘These kind of rivalries and players push us to our one hundred percent limit. I’m happy about this today.’
And Sinner was even happier to notch this 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alcaraz in Riyadh. Three victories there earned him a cool $6 million – roughly half his earnings elsewhere all year.
Meanwhile there was a poignant moment when the retiring Rafael Nadal and his veteran adversary Novak Djokovic met each other for the last time.
This is the rivalry Djokovic has valued the most throughout his career. Like Sinner and Alcaraz, Novak and Rafa became better players because they knew the other was waiting to test and push them to new levels.
Djokovic won their final contest 6-2, 7-5 (7-6). But the Saudis handed Nadal the most memorable prize in the form of a solid gold tennis racquet complete with golden strings.
Rafa isn’t quite done. There is still an imminent appointment with the Davis Cup, as he represents Spain one last time. But we shall miss him at Wimbledon.
Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic should all provide incredible entertainment at Wimbledon 2025, though.
