Iga Swiatek Wins French Open And Wimbledon 2022 Awaits!
Roland Garros
June 4, 2022
Iga Swiatek defeated Coco Gauff and ran straight to her team and family to embrace them.
Meanwhile Coco sat with tears rolling down her cheeks, wondering what might have been.
Yet there was little she could have done to prevent a second Roland Garros triumph for her formidable adversary.
The much-loved young American will come back even stronger for Wimbledon 2022 and she will be even better for this experience.
Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff could play again at Wimbledon 2022 in a few weeks!
What a showdown that would be on Centre Court in Centenary Year!
Gauff will surely put up even more of a fight on grass at a tournament she adores.
And don’t forget that Emma Raducanu will be desperate for a big match on the same hallowed turf.
Indeed Raducanu recently went toe to toe with Swiatek and gave a very good account of herself.
That’s another sizzling match-up we can hope to see at Wimbledon 2022.
In the mean time a beaming Swiatek thoroughly deserved her 6-1, 6-3 victory and her second Roland Garros title.
That’s 35 wins on the bounce now. Not even the Williams sisters managed more in their prime.
Iga seized the initiative with an instant break and never truly relinquished overall control, despite Gauff’s best efforts.
Coco fought hard and the match was far from one-sided. She valiantly struck back with a break of her own early in the second.
But Gauff often tried too hard, because she probably dreaded the sheer ferocity of what was constantly coming back at her.
Coco said bravely: ‘Congratulations Iga, hopefully we can play in more finals and hopefully I can get a win off you one of these days!’
That could happen as soon as Wimbledon 2022. And America can be proud of their rising star.
Remember, Gauff is just eighteen and Swiatek is already 21.
Yet Swiatek’s winning run suggests she is at the height of her powers and it will take a very special performance to beat her.
Polish fans will flock to Wimbledon 2022 just like the Americans. They must sense a first Wimbledon title for their favourite.
After her victory, an emotional Swiatek said: ‘I just told Coco don’t cry and then I’m doing it!
‘We all deserve to be here and thanks to my team for your support and hard work all the time.
‘It was tough, the pressure was big, thanks to all the fans and all the Polish flags I see there.’
Wimbledon 2022 will welcome Americans, Poles and many more at the biggest tournament of them all.
