Iga Swiatek has won her first title of the year with a storming display in Toronto.
Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina is used to losing first sets before finding her feet to triumph in three.
But there was no comeback this time for Rybakina, who seemed taken aback by the stunning quality of her rejuvenated opponent.
Swiatek was simply too fast, too hungry and too good as she took the crown by a convincing 6-2, 6-3 in just 75 minutes.
Iga Swiatek must be one of the favourites for Wimbledon 2027 if she can maintain this kind of form into next year.
The talented Pole took her first grass-court Slam in 2025 before she began to lose her way. Now she is back to her fearsome best.
And her demolition of Rybakina must make Iga one of the hottest contenders for the US Open in a few weeks’ time.
Ben Shelton must also be high on confidence after back-to-back ATP Montreal Masters 1000 titles.
He defeated his fellow American, Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) with a free-flowing display and a fizzing winner to close out.
His demonstration of power and poise puts him in just the right place for the big action at Flushing Meadows at the end of the month.
Shelton really does look supremely relaxed and ready for whatever the US Open might bring.
Iga Swiatek and Ben Shelton have the world at their feet – and continue to learn their craft at a furious pace.
Although both seem to have been around forever, Swiatek is only 25 – and Shelton is still just 23.
Iga already has huge success behind her. This Toronto romp was the 26th title of her career.
And Swiatek’s twelfth WTA 1000 crown takes her beyond Aryna Sabalenka. She only trails the great Serena Williams by one now.
Iga’s celebration after an eleven-month title drought made it seem like this was her very first trophy at the top of the game.
And the Polish fans were certainly a noisy force, which seemed to further unnerve an already shell-shocked Rybakina.
