Carlos Alcaraz “Not There Yet” But Already Incredible Again!

Carlos Alcaraz is already giving us stratospheric levels of entertainment as he builds towards a full 2027 on the ATP tour.
A climbing backhand volley and a cheeky ‘tweener preceded an extraordinary shoot-out at the net against Karen Khachanov in Vienna.
Carlitos came out on top to go 2-1 ahead in the second set at that point. But it was Karen who reached out to high-five his opponent in delight.
Carlos Alcaraz and his love of tennis are so infectious that his return to the All England Club for Wimbledon 2027 is already keenly anticipated.
He is the embodiment of the passion we all feel for our sport. Yet the Spanish genius remains endearingly vulnerable as he seeks top gear once more.
Alcaraz squandered three match points at 5-4 in the second. Khachanov even served to level up the match. But the favourite dug deep to break yet again.
Carlitos had his game face on for the breaker to close out the match 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The rapturous applause in those moments was fully deserved. But Alcaraz knows there is more to do.
‘I am happy with the way I am playing and with my current level. But I still feel I am not quite there yet,’ he said.
‘Those match points! I could have played them a little better. I overplayed a couple of the match points and then I made a few mistakes. I played too fast.’
But the fact that Carlitos is his own harshest critic is encouraging. He clearly won’t be happy until he is blowing opponents away with greater ruthlessness.
And perhaps that desire to improve is the most reassuring thing about this comeback phase in a stellar career. You just know he’ll end up even better than before!
Carlos Alcaraz is on course to hit his very best form at Wimbledon 2027. He could well make it a hat-trick of Grand Slam titles on grass.
