Canada can boast some of the hottest young talent in world tennis. And that makes a trip to Wimbledon 2027 particularly enticing for the country’s passionate sports fans.
FELIX AUGER ALIASSIME
Felix Auger Aliassime was twenty-five when he reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2026. He was edged out by former winner Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-setter. But you get the feeling Felix will be reaching his peak in time for Wimbledon 2027.
As we emerged from the thrills and spills of Wimbledon 2026, Auger Aliassime was ranked fourth in the world. When you climb that high in the game, you sense that a major triumph is just around the corner. It happened to Sascha Zverev on clay. We think it could happen to Felix on grass. And the increasing genius of Auger Aliassime isn’t the only reason for Canadians to feel good about Wimbledon 2027.
MBOKO AND FERNANDEZ
Not long after Wimbledon 2025, Canadian sensation Victoria Mboko turned women’s tennis on its head. She stormed to a remarkable title triumph in Montreal to announce her arrival on the big stage.
Mboko beat former Grand Slam title winners Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka on her way to glory.
Injury ruled Victoria out of Wimbledon 2026 – meaning that Serena Williams had to look elsewhere for her doubles partner. But why shouldn’t the powerful teenager arrive at Wimbledon 2027 even stronger, with almost a year’s extra experience under her belt? Mboko could be a serious contender at the 2027 Wimbledon Championships.
Another Canadian youngster entertained tennis lovers even before Mboko’s breakthrough year. We knew all about Leylah Fernandez from her US Open final epic against eventual winner Emma Raducanu in 2021. Leylah is still only 23 – and we feel she is capable of even greater things.
FINALISTS
A Canadian is going to win Wimbledon one day. Could Felix Auger Aliassime or Victoria Mboko become the next big contender at Wimbledon? Compatriots have come close on several occasions.
Big-serving Milos Raonic reached the Wimbledon final in 2016. Eugenie Bouchard did the same in 2014. Denis Shapovalov made the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2021. Surely a Canadian crown is coming on grass soon?
DABROWSKI
We can’t complete our appraisal of the battling Canadians without paying tribute to Gabriela Dabrowski. She reached the women’s doubles final of Wimbledon 2024, just as she had done in 2019. Gabriela and her Kiwi partner Erin Routliffe were eventually edged out in the 2024 showpiece by Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova.
Behind the scenes, Gabriela had begun dealing with breast cancer. And at Wimbledon 2026, she was sought out for a friendly and encouraging conversation by fellow cancer survivor Catherine, Princess of Wales. It wasa touching moment.
Once more, Ottawa’s Dabrowski suffered the heartbreak of a loss in the final at Wimbledon, however. She and her Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani were edged out in the women’s doubles showpiece by France’s Kristina Mladenovic and China’s Guo Hanyu. But Canada can always be immensely proud of the courage Dabrowski showed to bounce back into Wimbledon contention against the odds.
