Naomi Osaka Stuns Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff Plays Pegula!

Wimbledon

July 6, 2026

Naomi Osaka has provided one of the biggest shocks of Wimbledon so far by knocking out the world number one.

A shell-shocked Aryna Sabalenka was no match for the Japanese star, who has previously never been comfortable on grass.

Osaka triumphed 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to stake her second-week claim to a maiden Wimbledon title. And it sounds as though Naomi has finally lost her fear of lawn tennis.

She said: ‘It’s been a long time since I had so much fun on court. To do it here really means a lot. I lost to her three times in a row, so that really sucked. I wanted to turn it over.’

Now America’s Jessica Pegula is the highest ranked woman left in the tournament. On Tuesday she’ll play Coco Gauff, who produced a brilliant comeback against Belinda Bencic.

Pegula versus Gauff will be a blockbuster all-American quarter-final with the stakes increasingly high!

Naomi Osaka, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are set to thrill Wimbledon 2026 in the days to come.

But American tennis fans might find No1 Court a particularly satisfying place to visit today (Monday).

Taylor Fritz faces Alexander Bublik as he sets his sights on his first major. Expect fireworks and sensational stroke play!

And before that, ex-Australian Open champion Madison Keys takes on Linda Noskova.

Centre Court might be the noisiest place in London on Monday, though. British hope Arthur Fery plays the Bulgarian veteran, Grigor Dimitrov in what could be a rollercoaster ride for the home crowd.

French Open champion Alexander Zverev will then aim to take down Jiri Lehecka on the same stage, as the German tries to stay in the fight for back-to-back Grand Slams.

Meanwhile Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have already progressed with ominous confidence. And reigning champion Sinner will take some beating in the absence of Carlos Alcaraz.

For all that, it’s the sudden affinity between Naomi Osaka and the manicured Wimbledon grass that has been dominating conversations in SW19.

Naomi Osaka and Jannik Sinner have powerful weapons at their disposal as they start to discover their best form at Wimbledon 2026!
