Arthur Fery Is Last Brit Standing after Support from The Princess
Wimbledon
July 3, 2026
Arthur Fery roared into round three of Wimbledon 2026 – not knowing that Catherine, The Princess of Wales was watching him on Court 18.
Here at Wimbledon Debenture Holders, we often point out that Wimbledon is a unique sporting occasion, where British royalty rubs shoulders with A-list actors.
And this week at Wimbledon, we have already seen the likes of Richard E. Grant and Charles Dance enjoy the action on Centre Court.
But a royal appearance on the outside courts is less common. Perhaps that’s why Fery didn’t even imagine he was playing in front of the royal family’s number one tennis fan.
Arthur Fery and Catherine, The Princess of Wales represented the best of British on the first Thursday of Wimbledon 2026.
The Princess was accompanied to the match by Tim Henman, the former tennis star who is now involved with the organisation of this magical event.
Her Royal Highness is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC). She genuinely loves our glorious sport.
Fery, who held his nerve to defeat Otto Virtanen 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-3, later expressed his astonishment at the low-profile presence of a royal supporter.
He admitted: ‘I didn’t know she was here. I probably would have been a bit more tight if I did. I’m so happy with how I managed to keep my emotions in check and keep going. So happy to reach the third round.’
The 23-year-old Fery’s reward is £185,000 in prize money – and the prospect of a third-round match-up with Zizou Bergs on Saturday – probably on one of the show courts this time!
