Coco Gauff Leads the American Fightback at Wimbledon 2026!

Coco Gauff has been enjoying a good scrap on Centre Court since she was just fifteen years old.
And she had to use all her fighting spirit to survive the deciding tie-break against Solana Sierra.
The American was 4-7 down to the underdog from Argentina. But somehow Gauff won six points in succession to prevail at the death.
One of those winners, a half-volley cross-court backhand after the ball had already gotten past her, was completely staggering in its brilliance.
And a couple of well-timed aces made sure the job was done moments later. That prompted some very emotional screams of sheer relief from Coco to celebrate her 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) victory.
Coco Gauff has a tremendous amount of support on Centre Court. Could Wimbledon 2026 finally be her year?
After this hard-fought win, Coco said: ‘I was relaxed even though I was nervous for most points in the match. It was just a tug of war with us.
‘I’m just happy with my serve. It held up the whole match and obviously helped in the tie-breaker.’
Gauff now plays her compatriot Claire Liu in the third round. Liu is a former world number one junior. She won the Wimbledon Girls title in 2017 – a couple of years before Coco broke through on grass at senior level.
Meanwhile Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul are still going strong in the men’s tournament, as US tennis gets over the shock of Ben Shelton’s early exit.
And Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and Iva Jovic are just a few of the other American women in the hunt for the women’s singles title after Serena’s first-round swan song.
The biggest men are still in the fight at Wimbledon 2026. Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have both won twice.
