Alexander Zverev Faces Fritz, Tiafoe Saves Five Match Points

June 20, 2026

Alexander Zverev is showing the sort of form and confidence that will make him a serious contender at Wimbledon 2026.

The French Open champion has reached the semi-finals in Halle, where he will face Taylor Fritz after the American defeated his compatriot Ben Shelton in a thriller.

Zverev is looking for his first grass-court title in the build-up to Wimbledon. But also in the hunt in Halle is Frances Tiafoe, who saved an incredible five match points to outlast Felix Auger Aliassime. The German may ultimately have the upper hand.

Alexander Zverev is playing like a man ready to topple defending champion Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon 2026, too.

But the Brits can start dreaming of their own success after Jack Draper announced his comeback at Eastbourne next week.

And although Draper hasn’t played since April, he now has Andy Murray in his corner to inspire a deep run at Wimbledon.

Zverev is the man right now, though. He managed to edge Belgian Raphael Collignon 7-6 (12-10), 7-6 (7-2) to show admirable nerve when it mattered.

Taylor showed equal composure to see off Ben Shelton 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-3) – and won’t fear the Roland Garros winner.

Sascha said of the Fritz match-up: ‘I’ve had a tough time against him in the last year but I feel I am playing a lot better now. I hope to continue playing that way.’

If Zverev beats one American, then waiting for him in the final could be another. Tiafoe won an amazing thriller against Auger Aliassime 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (14-12).

Tiafoe takes on local boy Daniel Altmaier next, as the Americans enjoy plenty of grass court time in the build-up to Wimbledon 2026.

Tommy Paul is also back on the charge at Queen’s, the tournament he won in 2024. He faces Ugo Umbert in the semi-finals there.

Alexander Zverev already knows that a whole bunch of Americans will be trying to take him down at Wimbledon 2026 in a few weeks.
