Mirra Andreeva Wins Roland Garros at the Tender Age of Nineteen!
Roland Garros
June 6, 2026
Mirra Andreeva has been crowned queen of Roland Garros only a few weeks after her nineteenth birthday.
She ended the dreams of Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska by adapting to the windy conditions much better.
And with a maturity way beyond her years, you wonder just how dominant Andreeva could become as she moves into her prime.
Mirra Andreeva will come to Wimbledon 2026 knowing she is a serious contender to lift her second Grand Slam trophy this summer.
The signs are already good following her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Chwalinska in blustery Paris. Whatever the London elements throw at her, Andreeva looks ready.
Mirra was most fondly remembered last year for not realising she had beaten Emma Navarro to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
It was the first time a teenager had seen that stage of the women’s singles since 2007. And Andreeva only lost to Belinda Bencic because of a couple of edgy tie-breaks.
‘If I can win Wimbledon, so can she,’ said her trusty coach Conchita Martinez, who won the title on Centre Court back in 1994.
Why not? Mirra’s punchy power on both sides was not compromised by the Parisian wind on Saturday, as her older opponent began to struggle.
The first six games were evenly matched. Both players looked vulnerable to breaks of serve – and the early tennis was fitting of a final.
Then Andreeva took control to take the first set with ease – and established a commanding second-set platform too.
We waited to see if Chwalinska could stage a comeback for her growing army of Polish supporters. Sadly she squandered three beak-points in the third game. And unsurprisingly, Maja lost heart for a while.
She did restore some pride towards the end as Mirra saw the finishing line and wobbled momentarily. But it was all to no avail.
Even so, what an incredible run from the qualifier! She will have captured a lot of hearts during her extraordinary three weeks in the French capital.
Mirra Andreeva and Maja Chwalinska will be back to thrill us all on grass at Wimbledon 2026. We can’t wait!
