Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid Notch Magnificent Seventh RG Title!
Roland Garros
June 6, 2026
Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid last lost at Roland Garros way back in 2019. That’s an extraordinary thought in this highly competitive sporting age.
No wonder they spun their wheelchairs for joy as they landed a magnificent seventh doubles title on the Parisian clay.
It’s a British achievement that’s hard to match in any gladiatorial arena. Made harder and perhaps more satisfying by the fact that the French crowd were very much cheering for their opponents.
Hewett and Reid defeated Frenchman Stephane Houdet and Spaniard Martin de la Puente by an emphatic 6-2, 6-3. No one could say they didn’t deserve their triumph.
Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid will arrive at Wimbledon 2026 full of confidence – and more than ready for their home Grand Slam!
Seventh heaven in Paris felt all the more phenomenal considering the fact that the pair initially struggled on clay.
Hewett recalled: ‘This was one of the toughest tournaments we faced when we first started playing doubles with each other. It took us a fair few years to get our hands on this trophy.’
And now they won’t let go. It’s clearly so much fun for Hewett to partner Reid, that they barely feel the weight of expectation at all.
Alfie added: ‘To win seven in a row is some achievement and I just want to say it’s an absolute pleasure to be your doubles partner.’
The feeling is clearly mutual and Reid responded: ‘Big thanks to Alfie, we’ve been a team for a long time now. But we are finding new ways to play and new ways to enjoy it.
‘It’s a big year for wheelchair tennis. We’re celebrating fifty years of the sport.’
