Jakub Mensik Faces Alexander Zverev in the French Open semi-finals!
Roland Garros
June 3, 2026
Jakub Mensik plays Sascha Zverev in a blockbuster of a semi-final at Roland Garros.
The pressure will be on the German favourite, who must see this tournament as his best chance to win a Grand Slam.
Zverev always seems to lose his nerve just when he appears to be on the verge of glory at the majors. Could this time be different, with all the biggest stars already eliminated?
Mensik will do his best to heap further heartbreak on his nearly-man opponent. Jakub certainly didn’t show signs of crumbling against the flamboyant Joao Fonseca last night.
Even when the courageous Fonseca saved six match points in an extraordinary third set, the 20-year-old Czech simply focused afresh to dominate the tie-break and close out 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Jakub Mensik has a game ready-made for success at Wimbledon 2026 too! That’s the verdict of the legendary John McEnroe.
The American, former Wimbledon champion said: ‘Fonseca is a work in progress for the grass. But Mensik’s game is already suited to that surface – he has everything he needs to do well.’
It’s hard to argue with the verdict after Jakub Mensik effectively tamed Brazilian sensation Fonseca for most of their quarter-final.
The Eastern European produced a lethal combination of big serves and deft touches at the net. His movement was stunning and his temperament seemed unshakeable.
With Zverev also the proud owner of a huge serve, their semi-final could come down to who handles the tie-break pressure best.
Sascha downed Spanish teenager Rafael Jodar 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, 6-3 in an increasingly one-sided quarter-final. So far Zverev seems more relaxed than usual. That could change.
Meanwhile Marta Kostyuk defeated Elina Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the showdown between the Ukrainian superstars at Roland Garros.
Now Kostyuk takes on Mirra Andreeva, who looked imperious in her 6-0, 6-3 dismissal of Sorana Cirstea.
Jakub Mensik and Marta Kostyuk will bring their growing reputations to Wimbledon 2026 at the end of the month. Will you be there too?
