Coco Gauff Faces Mirra Andreeva after Epic against Iva Jovic

Coco Gauff rarely seems to do it the easy way during her big matches. Maybe that’s why we love her so much.
She had to save a match point against fellow American Iva Jovic on Monday. Now she faces Madrid finalist Mirra Andreeva in the Rome quarters.
Coco Gauff and her endearing imperfections will doubtless win us all over at Wimbledon 2026, starting next month.
Her inner struggles mean she seems to suffer for her art almost every match. And that very human side of Coco is perhaps what we find most engaging.
Slowly Gauff is starting to embrace her own challenging game.
‘I’m not Jannik Sinner. I’m think I’m going to lose some sets,’ she told her Italian audience amusingly in the sunken arena of the Foro Italico.
But it was worse than that against teenager Jovic in this dramatic and gladiatorial setting. Coco was nearly down and out as her adversary served for the match at 5-3 in the second.
Even Gauff had almost stopped believing, somewhat uncharacteristically. She explained: ‘On that match point, my head was almost to the locker room, to be honest. I was like, “well I’m going to hear a lot about this one.”
‘Then I was able to get through it. I think maybe she dropped her level a little bit when she had the lead.’
Somehow Gauff battled back in the Roman dirt to take the match by a thrilling 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. She knows she’ll have to be more consistent against Andreeva in the quarter-finals.
Coco Gauff will provide us all with stunning entertainment on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2026, too. She has been adored there since she was fifteen.
