Nick Kyrgios looks set to make his long-awaited Grand Slam comeback at the Australian Open.

And a protected ranking of 21 might just help the controversial maverick find his feet once more in the first major of the year.

Kyrgios reached the final at Wimbledon two years ago – and only lost that showpiece to the great Novak Djokovic

Nick Kyrgios could make a big impact at Wimbledon 2025 if his fitness holds up.

And the outspoken Aussie seems remarkably positive about his physical condition after two years of injuries.

He said: ‘Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years.

‘I played that amazing year in 2022. Then at the finals in Wimbledon and the US Open I started feeling some issues in my wrist.

‘I had that wrist reconstruction and now I’m feeling amazing.’

Kyrgios is still only 29 – and has always been blessed with more than his fair share of ability. Some say he never tried hard enough to fulfil his potential in his prime.

But recently Nick hit back, pointing at his earnings and famous victories over Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

He said: ‘I have an eight-figure career. Grand Slam finalist and beaten all of the greatest of all time. Doesn’t seem bad to me. No drugs either.’

Nick’s refusal to be guided by a coach offers one potential reason why he hasn’t won more silverware, along with a variety of injury problems.

Here at WDH we predicted at one stage that Kyrgios might break the habit of a lifetime and allow Andy Murray to coach him, once the Brit had retired.

Djokovic stepped in to enlist Murray’s services for the Australian Open instead. But could Kyrgios turn to Murray later in the year, if the Scot’s partnership with Novak doesn’t work out?

Nick Kyrgios coached by Andy Murray at Wimbledon 2025 would make for a dramatic twist to a much-anticipated occasion.

But for now, the simple prospect of a Kyrgios comeback is enough to make the tennis world lick its lips and break out the popcorn.

We can’t wait for all the Grand Slam action in the New Year!
