Emma Raducanu Reaches Quarter-Finals at Korean Open

Emma Raducanu may have raised her arms in relief as much as joy as she showed further promise at the Korean Open.

The ability to quickly forgive mistakes and missed opportunities is a key component in the developing psychological makeup of any young player.

Emma managed to let go of the negative emotions inevitably attached to squandering six match points. And she did so in time to achieve an outstanding result in the Far East.

Emma Raducanu is improving her mental strength all the time. And that will stand her in good stead when Wimbledon 2025 comes around.

She certainly found some fluency and freedom in her display against eighth seed Yue Yuan, despite an injury scare and some strapping to her foot.

Raducanu seized the early initiative and eventually somehow held her nerve to close out 6-4, 6-3. That did justice to the overall quality of her performance.

She explained: ‘I think the key to the success today was trying to let go of any frustration that happened. Closing out, I had a lot of match points I couldn’t convert. Just staying focused and breaking in that last game was key.

‘And the crowd support meant a lot. I love playing in Korea and I love Seoul. It’s one of my favourite cities. And I feel the fans here get behind me. I find that particularly special.’

Emma Raducanu will find the support she receives at Wimbledon 2025 special too. It’s her home Grand Slam and Centre Court will go crazy for her as usual.

For now, she will need the crowd’s backing in Seoul when she plays her quarter-final against Daria Kasatkina – who beat her convincingly in Eastbourne earlier this year.

But conditions will be very different in Korea. And whatever happens, 21-year-old Emma Raducanu has had a good tournament after her marathon 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) victory over Peyton Stearns in the previous round.

People have expected too much of Emma ever since she won the US Open a few years ago. But even in that moment of glory, she knew she still had so much to learn. Little by little, she is moving towards her full potential.
