Grigor Dimitrov Stuns Carlos Alcaraz to Reach Miami Semis

Grigor Dimitrov produced a sensational performance to humble Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in Miami.
And there was a British coach behind the Bulgarian’s extraordinary success – Jamie Delgado.
Andy Murray’s old coach has encouraged Dimitrov to be braver in the big moments – and that’s certainly what happened against Alcaraz.
‘I took all my opportunities, I attacked every second serve and stayed aggressive,’ said Grigor, who faces Sascha Zverev next. ‘I wasn’t afraid to come to the net. Sometimes simplicity is genius.’
Grigor Dimitrov is now hitting such heights that we could see him upset some great players and go deep at Wimbledon 2024 as well.
Carlitos simply didn’t seem to know what had hit him. He made a mini-comeback in the second set – but Dimitrov stayed strong and broke again at the death.
Some of his winning returns at full stretch were out of this world in this dashing 6-2, 6-4 masterclass. Most of the crowd favoured Alcaraz and soon fell into a shocked silence.
Up in the stands, Wimbledon veteran Delgado looked on with quiet satisfaction as the fruits of his labour brought amazing results on court.
And it was amusing to remember how Delgado had suffered such undeserved tongue-lashings when things went wrong for Andy Murray during their partnership.
From Dimitrov, you sense there is only gratitude as he finally seems to be fulfilling his potential once more.
The other Miami semi-final will be fought out between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. Both matches should be superb gladiatorial contests.
Grigor Dimitrov and Jannik Sinner will be wonderful to watch at Wimbledon 2024 too.
And of course, Carlos Alcaraz will be back with a bang to defend his Wimbledon title.
