Andy Murray Gains Sweet Revenge to Progress in Miami

Locker Room

March 24, 2024

Andy Murray roared as though he had won the tournament itself when his opponent steered a final, token piece of resistance wide.

And that reaction was hardly surprising, given the pain Tomas Martin Etcheverry had inflicted earlier in the year.

The Argentine had ended Murray’s Australian Open run before it had really begun. But in Miami Andy lived to fight another day.

Andy Murray is using every match he plays to build sharpness and momentum for the final Grand Slam of his career this summer – Wimbledon 2024.

It’s great news that an impressive 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory puts Andy through to the round of 32 in Florida. There he will face Tomas Machac. The Czech is world number 60 – and will be tough to beat.

But Murray’s touch is returning. There’s no doubt about it. We have been saying for some that his game is improving, even in previous defeats.

Once more this tennis master left us memories to treasure before it was too late.

There was a beautiful fading drop-shot, which left the South American scrambling to send the ball back over the net at all. Andy nonchalantly tapped his reply into an empty court.

And a trademark Murray lob had the crowd gasping with pleasure. Backhand, cross-court and effortlessly brilliant, it left the younger man with no answer.

Murray is enjoying every moment of his return to truly competitive tennis. And apart from his obvious affinity with Wimbledon, this venue feels particularly comfortable.

Andy explained: ‘Miami has been like my tennis home really. I’ve done so much of my work and training preparation here. And I love the city. This is my last time playing here – so it’s nice to get another opportunity.’

Andy Murray knows Wimbledon 2024 will be his last time playing competitive singles at the All England Club too.

He wants to give it everything and go as deep as he can. Will you be there to watch the legendary Brit progress at his home Grand Slam?

We can secure you some of the best seats in the house to see a tennis superstar in action before it’s too late.
