Jamie Murray and Michael Venus Secure Doubles Title In Doha

February 25, 2024

Jamie Murray has won an important title in the twilight of his career, to offer inspiration to his younger brother.

Andy Murray has been struggling of late – but will do everything he can to be in the best possible shape for the summer.

Jamie Murray is already flying in partnership with Michael Venus – and will go in search of more silverware at the All England Club in July.

Jamie Murray and brother Andy will still be star attractions at Wimbledon 2024.

And who knows whether we will see either man at their home Grand Slam the following year?

Jamie and his Kiwi partner Venus became Qatar Open champions when they defeated Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (7-0), 2-6, 10-8.

The Italians did well to come back after they were pulverised in the first breaker. They were determined not to leave the second set to sudden-death chance.

But it was Murray and his partner who held their nerve once more when it really mattered to take the super-breaker and all the glory in Doha.

Italian tennis shouldn’t be too downhearted though. Jasmine Paolini defeated her Russian opponent Anna Kalinskaya 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to win Dubai.

And that means Paolini will enter the top twenty to announce her own credentials for the summer in Europe.

Jamie Murray, his brother Andy and Jasmine Paolini will all offer compelling drama as they try to progress at Wimbledon 2024.

That’s the thing about the Championships on grass this year. We will see players like Paolini in their prime. We will see rising stars like Jannik Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz too.

But there will also be eternal legends on show, desperate to steal the limelight one last time before they bow out forever.

Novak Djokovic will make history if he takes his 25th Grand Slam to pass Margaret Court and become the undisputed greatest of all time.

Rafael Nadal and Sir Andy Murray will just hope to make a big enough impression to make it a fitting farewell.

We can’t guarantee we will see any of the epic trio again in singles action at Wimbledon in future.

So this is the now-or-never Championships if you want to witness the greatest gladiators battling it out.

Wimbledon 2024 is already telling us it’s time to seize the day and see the legends at close quarters while we still can.
