Taylor Fritz has reached the Australian Open quarter-final stage for the first time.
And his reward is the ultimate test – a showdown with the great Novak Djokovic.
The brave American feels anything is possible after he defeated one of the tournament favourites, Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
‘If I bring my very best tennis like I did at the end there, I have a chance against Novak,’ Fritz insisted after his stunning victory.
The head-to-head is 8-0 in favour of Djokovic, who defeated Adrian Mannarino by serving up a double bagel on his way to a 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 victory.
It would be a massive shock if Taylor was to upset the odds and take down the ten-time Australian Open winner.
But Fritz isn’t going to let the statistics bother him. ‘A lot of those matches were when I was much younger,’ he maintained. ‘If I bring my best game I still have a chance.’
Taylor Fritz is in his prime and ready to shine at Wimbledon 2024 as well!
He was a quarter-finalist at the All England Club in 2022. And don’t forget, he is ten years younger than Djokovic. Time is on Taylor’s side.
And the same is true of Coco Gauff, another American through to the Australian Open quarter-finals.
The irrepressible Coco had no trouble beating Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-2 – and seems more confident by the day,
Few would bet against her defeating Marta Kostyuk in their quarter-final clash. And that would leave Gauff just two matches away from Aussie Open glory!
Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff have come of age. There has never been a better time to watch them in London. Come to Wimbledon 2024!
American spectators will certainly make their presence felt if these two heroes go deep at the most prestigious Grand Slam of the year.
Wimbledon has loved Coco ever since she was a fearless fifteen-year-old on Centre Court. And Fritz is winning more and more fans worldwide for his gutsy displays and easy post-match charm.
We can’t wait to see Gauff and Taylor strutting their stuff at Wimbledon 2024.
