Novak Djokovic Downs Daniil Medvedev To Win US Open

US Open

September 10, 2023

Novak Djokovic has made fresh tennis history in the Arthur Ashe Stadium at Flushing Meadows.

No wonder he threw away his racquet at the end and buried his face in his hands.

He just won his 24th Grand Slam to draw level with Australia’s Margaret Court.

One more major and all the talk will be over.

One more Grand Slam title and Djokovic will become the undisputed greatest player of all time.

Novak Djokovic could end the debate once and for all at Wimbledon 2024.

The All England Club could provide the Serb with a fitting stage to win that vital 25th Slam.

Of course, many will say that the argument is already over, because Djokovic has proved his superiority beyond the Grand Slams.

But for now, the record books will still show Margaret Court level with Novak for majors.

And for some people, rightly or wrongly, Slams are all that matter when you measure a player’s historic value.

At 36, Novak knows he must take his chances for further glory while he still can. And that’s exactly what he did at Flushing Meadows.

It wasn’t all plain sailing though. In truth, Daniil Medvedev should have won the second set. Indeed he had a set point at 6-5 and he only needed to send a backhand down the line for match parity.

Instead he went cross-court, where Novak had anticipated. The Russian never recovered and Djokovic closed the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

You might put Medvedev’s demise down to his own stubborn streak. He often positioned himself too deeply behind the baseline, even on the Djokovic second serve.

And no matter how many times Novak served out wide and rushed the net to volley the winner, Medvedev simply couldn’t anticipate the tactic and find a solution.

Even Daniil’s own coach seemed to be tearing his hair out towards the end. But Medvedev simply isn’t as strong as Djokovic tactically or psychologically. And that was the difference between winning and losing this US Open.

Novak Djokovic can prove his unrivalled mental strength among the men again at Wimbledon 2024.

What an occasion that will be! Historic and unique.

Can we find your seats to help you make memories to last a lifetime?

This could be the final time we see the great Djokovic at Wimbledon.

Be sure not to miss the greatest.
