Jelena Ostapenko Knocks Out Champ Swiatek, Americans Thrive!

US Open

September 4, 2023

Jelena Ostapenko continued her unlikely dominance against the best player in the world and shocked the US Open.

She defeated Iga Swiatek 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 – and now she plays Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals.

‘I’m expecting a battle and it will be a great match,’ said Ostapenko, who fears no one.

Maybe we shouldn’t have been surprised that she beat Swiatek so comprehensively, ending it with a nonchalant, diagonal cross-court winner.

Amazingly, that’s Ostapenko’s fourth consecutive win against the Pole, who has never notched a victory against the Latvian. No wonder Iga could hardly look at her conqueror after the match.

Jelena Ostapenko, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek could fight again for supremacy at Wimbledon 2024.

Swiatek is a former Junior winner at the All England Club, while Ostapenko was a main-draw semi-finalist back in 2018.

Gauff charmed the world as a fifteen-year-old on Centre Court and No1 Court during some courageous clashes against far more experienced opponents. Coco loves Wimbledon!

But right now it’s Gauff versus Ostapenko at the US Open that’s capturing the imagination.

And Jelena already knows she can go all the way at a Grand Slam, having won the French Open back in 2017.

But Gauff has never looked so determined. She even seemed to clash with her coach Brad Gilbert during her lowest moments against Carline Wozniacki.

Somehow Coco summoned the inner warrior to hit back in style and take the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

‘As long as my opponent isn’t American as well, I know you’ll always support me,’ Gauff told the crowd afterwards.

But Arthur Ashe may be a little more divided when Madison Keys faces Jessica Pegula later.

And that’s not the only all-American tie at the business end of this extraordinary US Open.

Frances Tiafoe will play Ben Shelton to ensure an American semi-finalist in the men’s draw.

And Taylor Fritz will face the great Novak Djokovic in another of these epic quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.

American tennis is definitely on the rise once more. We’ll gladly enjoy more of the same at Wimbledon!

Wimbledon 2024 could very well be the scene for an American success story in July. You can book your perfect Centre Court seats with us right now.

In the mean time, the US Open couldn’t be going much better for the home-grown players.

And, like you, we’re loving every moment of it.
