Djokovic and Tsitsipas Win Through As British Men Crash Out

Djokovic and Tsitsipas are both big names with very different records on grass.
Novak is reigning champion and favourite to retain his Wimbledon title.
Stefanos is usually such an underachiever on grass that few ever give him a chance of glory.
Djokovic and Tsitsipas are certainly showing the right stuff at Wimbledon 2023 – and they should both go deep into the second week.
Here at WDH, we have lost count of the number of times we have predicted that Stefanos Tsitsipas would become the new Bjorn Borg – and create a fanatical following at the All England Club.
Could Wimbledon 2023 be the Greek’s year to fuffil his potential?
Tsitsipas played beautiful tennis over two days against Andy Murray. There was of course that psychological dip in the third set that left him behind overnight.
But even last night we warned that Stef was playing the more adventurous and versatile tennis on grass.
Remember, this was Stef’s first time on Centre Court – but he looked so at home as he finally defeated the great Murray in five sets.
The other British men faired no better at Wimbledon on Friday. Number one Cameron Murray crashed out to American surprise package Chris Eubanks. And gutsy Liam Broady was eventually toppled by passionate Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
So the last remaining British hope rests with Katie Boulter, who plays reigning women’s champion Elena Rybakina on Centre Court Saturday.
But Wimbledon 2023 may ultimately prove to be all about Novak – and his bid to pull clear of the great Serena Williams for Grand Slam titles.
The way Djokovic beat the legendary Stan Wawrinka in straight sets on Friday night, climaxing in a thrilling third-set breaker, suggested the Serb has plenty left in the tank for the latter stages.
Djokovic could well be crowned king of Wimbledon 2023 next weekend.
Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas might have something to say about that, of course.
