Andy Murray Wins Surbiton Before Wimbledon 2023

Andy Murray has won a significant warm-up tournament in the build-up to Wimbledon 2023.

And make no mistake, Murray will feel he is on track to achieve something special at the All England Club.

World tennis will be focused on Novak Djokovic and his 23rd Grand Slam triumph – and rightly so.

And there’s no doubt that reigning champion Djokovic will start Wimbledon 2023 as the clear favourite.

But Murray has other ideas about how the tournament will unfold. And the signs are good in terms of the veteran Brit’s own potential to make his mark.

Andy Murray would love to have one last shot at taking down Novak Djokovic on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2023.

He has been first to start working on grass, after opting to skip the French Open.

And crucially, Andy hasn’t just been quietly preparing – he has been winning.

As Djokovic was milking the applause at Roland Garros, Murray was setting up victory against Jurij Ridionov in the Surbiton final.

Murray had to wait for his own moment of glory because, unlike the Paris final, his match was hit by rain.

Andy was 6-3 and 3-1 ahead when the weather took a turn for the worse.

Happily that didn’t upset the Scot’s momentum at all.

When the players returned to action after the delay, Murray swiftly sealed victory 6-3, 6-2 – and savoured that old winning feeling yet again.

We all know what Murray is like. It doesn’t matter whether he is playing a Grand Slam final or a Challenger event – he will be super-competitive until the battle is won.

Can Andy Murray create an upset at Wimbledon 2023?

It’s hard to imagine he could get the better of the imperious Djokovic at Wimbledon.

As Novak just said in Paris: ‘Players know they have a high mountain to climb when they play me over five sets.’

But what an occasion it would be on Centre Court this July, if Murray takes on Djokovic or one of the other superstars in the second week!

Wimbledon 2023 could be the last chance to see Andy Murray at such a huge sporting occasion.
