Carlos Alcaraz Stuns Medvedev With Indian Wells Brilliance

Indian Wells

March 20, 2023

Carlos Alcaraz demolished Daniil Medvedev’s unbeaten run with such verve and versatility that he left us longing for Wimbledon 2023.

Meanwhile Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina took revenge over Aryna Sabalenka for her Australia Open final defeat.

Indian Wells gave us two extraordinary singles winners at the end of a wonderful gathering in the Californian desert.

But the level achieved by world number one Alcaraz left everyone open-mouthed in astonishment.

Punishing power, subtle drop-shots, even the odd serve-and-volley combination. Alcaraz has it all.

And there is absolutely no reason why the likeable Spaniard’s game shouldn’t convert to grass this summer.

Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon 2023 could be one of the wonders of the sporting world.

His speed and shot selection made the game look ridiculously easy.

Remember, Medvedev had gone nineteen matches unbeaten and should have been able to trouble his opponent in every area. Instead he couldn’t touch Carlos.

Daniil was left shaking his head in disbelief as Alcaraz wiped the floor with him.

And it’s extraordinary to think that Alcaraz is still only nineteen years old.

If this is Carlos Alcaraz in development, what can he do when he reaches his peak? He is already frightening.

Only one man can match the youngster in this sort of form – Novak Djokovic.

And the superb Serb will be there to challenge the young pretender at the biggest tournament of all.

Carlos Alcaraz versus Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon 2023. That’s the showdown we all want to see.

For now Carlitos could simply marvel at the quality of his 6-3, 6-2 trophy victory.

‘I’m very happy with this amazing win – and thanks to my team for always making me feel relaxed and normal,’ he said humbly.

Except that Alcaraz isn’t normal. No one can honestly suggest such a thing after this performance.

They know a thing or two about tennis at Indian Wells. And the crowd were reduced to one gasp of disbelief after another at what they were seeing.

This was tennis from another planet. And it provoked the sort of reaction we all had when we first saw Usain Bolt stretch his legs in a sprint race.

How lucky tennis can feel, that we will be able to enjoy Carlos Alcaraz for another decade or more.

And Wimbledon has already been treated to the power of Elena Rybakina at the business end of proceedings.

She beat Sabalenka in a nervy women’s final that was probably more memorable for mistakes on the day.

Neither woman seemed to want to win the first-set tie-break as one chance after another went begging.

Finally Rybakina took control – and the Kazakh deserved her 7-6 (13-11), 6-4 victory over the double-faulting Sabalenka.

Do you want to see Indian Wells champions Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina at Wimbledon 2023?

What a treat that will be at the spiritual home of tennis, where history and glamour go hand in hand.

Give us a call and we can make it happen for you.
