Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray Impress At Indian Wells

Indian Wells

March 10, 2023

Emma Raducanu overcame illness and a wrist injury to gain sweet revenge over Danka Kovinic at Indian Wells.

Her opponent from Montenegro had beaten Raducanu in the second round of the Australian Open last year.

And she enjoyed winning starts to both sets as she achieved early breaks to worry the Brit.

But world number 77 Raducanu showed her psychological progression in recent months.

She hit back to beat Kovinic by an emphatic 6-2, 6-3 in America against all odds.

Emma Raducanu will be one of the big stars on show at Wimbledon 2023 this summer!

And with this kind of mental strength, there’s no reason why Emma can’t make a huge impact at her home Slam.

Raducanu explained what she went through prior to her first-round victory at Indian Wells.

She said: ‘I didn’t feel too good this morning and I’m just so happy with the way I fought and dealt with the circumstances.

‘I felt quite ill and so I’m just happy to have played the match and to have won.’

Emma could be seen coughing and spluttering even when she was on top against Kovinic.

And she wasn’t in her best physical shape due to a recent wrist injury.

‘I didn’t deep it,’ Raducanu said – young people’s speak for not overthinking it. ‘I just played point by point.’

Her reward for simplicity is a second-round showdown with Poland’s Magda Linette.

And Raducanu just loves Indian Wells. They rightly respect her there, as a former US Open Champion.

Meanwhile Andy Murray was laughing at the end of another three-set epic as he too advanced.

He always seems to win these days when his matches come down to to the final set.

So it proved against Tomas Etcheverry, as he triumphed 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4 to set up a second-round clash with Pablo Carreno Busta on Saturday.

Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray will give everything on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2023 as well!

And there will be other fantastic Brits on show at Wimbledon.

Jack Draper and Dan Evans will do battle in round two at Indian Wells to remind us of the sheer depth of British talent.
