Holger Rune is the name of everyone’s lips right now in the tennis world.
The 19-year-old Dane is the new sensation and the one to watch going into the new year.
Holger Rune could take Wimbledon 2023 by storm as well, if he carries on bringing down the big names!
We warned you in the last blog that Rune is on fire right now – and US champion Carlos Alcaraz faced a potential banana skin when they played in Paris.
Sure enough Rune knocked out Alcaraz – but he didn’t stop there. Felix Auger-Aliassime was his next victim.
In the Paris Masters final, the underdog defeated the great Novak Djokovic, even though Rune didn’t get off to the best start.
Holger’s confidence is so high that he still took the trophy 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to become the youngest winner since Boris Becker way back in 1986.
That impressed the vanquished Djokovic, who acknowledged: ‘I’m not happy that you beat me but I’m happy for you because I like your personality. You’re a dedicated guy who loves tennis. Your future is bright.’
And that passion was evident as the title winner replied to Novak: ‘You’re one of my favourite players and I’ve watched you since I was a kid. It’s a pleasure to share the court with you.’
Meanwhile in the doubles final Great Britain’s Neal Skupski and his Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof beat Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek 7-6, 6-4.
It was their seventh title of the season and means they finish the year on top of the world.
Another dominant world tennis star suffered a rare loss at the WTA Finals, though.
Iga Swiatek lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals 2-6, 6-2, 1-6. But the Polish genius still finishes her year with an incredible 67-9 win-loss record.
And next year could bring her even greater success as she continues to find new targets.
Iga Swiatek will be one of the firm favourites for Wimbledon 2023!
Will you be there to enjoy all the action? We can help make that dream come true!
