Andy Murray Reaches Quarter-Finals Of The Gijon Open

October 13, 2022

Andy Murray just never gives up – and he found his reward for that determination in Spain.

How we look forward to seeing Andy Murray winning more battles at Wimbledon 2023!

Nothing seemed to be going right for Murray in the first set against Argentina’s Pedro Cachin.

He missed out on the opening two marathon games and squandered five break points in all as he fell ominously behind.

But somehow Britain’s favourite sports personality broke just when it mattered to level the match.

And the brave-heart Scot used all his experience to hold his nerve in the decisive tie-break and take the match 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).

The fact that Murray was 5-1 up in that third-set breaker told you all you needed to know about the gulf in mental strength between this pair.

Andy is savouring every last chance for glory and now he stands just three wins from another ATP title.

Andy Murray will be equally determined to go deep and make a huge impact at Wimbledon 2023.

Andy why shouldn’t he repeat former glories if he can stay fit and continue to achieve wins into next summer?

He knew he wanted it more in the match he just won. He plays every contest as though it could be his last these days.

Murray explained: ‘I think I served well in the second and third sets. But also I just fought very hard.

‘In the first set I wasn’t playing my best and Pedro was serving very well for the first set-and-a-half. I was really struggling to break serve.’

But Murray dug deep to stay in the tournament and worked out how to solve his problems.

He explained: ‘I changed a little bit the way I was returning and gave myself more opportunities to break and I fought very hard to come back from a break down twice in the third set.’

Now he has given himself a chance against either American star Sebastian Korda or old Spanish foe Roberto Bautista Agut.

We can’t wait to see Andy Murray and his fighting spirit at Wimbledon 2023.

How about you?
