Alcaraz Downs Sinner In Epic, Sets Up Tiafoe Showdown

US Open

September 8, 2022

Alcaraz. If you haven’t heard the name already, you soon will.

Carlos Alcaraz now plays Frances Tiafoe in what promises to be a firework show of youthful tennis explosions.

The brilliant Spaniard took five hours and fifteen minutes to defeat Jannik Sinner in the longest semi-final of recent times.

The 2.50am finish in New York surpassed anything else this week in the city that never sleeps.

But few – if anyone – wanted to leave during this 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-7 (0-7), 7-5, 6-3 classic.

Alcaraz versus Tiafoe at Wimbledon 2023 is just the sort of spectacular we all want to see.

At Flushing Meadows, the European played one impossible shot when his racquet handle was actually behind his back.

That instinctive genius wasn’t a case of showboating. It was a wonderful piece of spontaneous solution-finding and won him the point.

But there looked to be no escape for Alcaraz when he faced match point in the fourth. Defiantly he saved the day in the early hours and battled on.

When all was said and done, Alcaraz said: ‘I still don’t know how I did it. The level I played of high-quality tennis. It’s unbelievable. But I believe in myself, my game.’

The new sensation is just nineteen. But Frances Tiafoe is still a youthful tennis superstar too.

And the level of tennis he found in order to crush Russian hope Andrey Rublev 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 was equally phenomenal.

It reduced Rublev to tears of despair. And at one point, poor Andrey appeared to be chewing a tennis ball to ease his frustration.

The American crowd went wild as Tiafoe posed time and again after winning points to draw the adulation of the cheering thousands.

Just imagine the Americans cheering Tiafoe at Wimbledon 2023 in the big matches on Centre Court!

Will you be coming over to see if he can achieve the ultimate dream?

For now, fantastic Frances stands just two matches from US Open glory.

In the other semi-final, Casper Ruud will attempt to end the aspirations of Karen Khachanov.

But it’s Tiafoe against Alcaraz that everyone wants to see.
