Heather Watson and Cam Norrie Triumph, Alcaraz Improves

Heather Watson reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the age of thirty and she has never looked better.
Guernsey-born Watson has had big moments at Wimbledon before, not least when she nearly beat the great Serena Williams a few years back.
But too often she has stumbled at her home slam before she could fulfil her promise.
Heather Watson and Wimbledon 2022 seems to be a whole new ball game.
She was in stunning form as she defeated Kaja Juvan 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 to reach the Last Sixteen Club.
‘What an atmosphere!’ she said afterwards. ‘There is nowhere I would rather make round four.’
And if she can maintain momentum then she stands a great chance against world 97 Jule Niemeier of Germany.
One more success would take Watson into the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. What an extraordinary achievement that would be!
Meanwhile Cameron Norrie had no problems against America’s Steve Johnson as he polished off a stylish 6-4, 6-1, 6-0 victory.
‘Playing on Centre Court, being in the spotlight and playing to that level was a lot of fun,’ Norrie said later.
The top British hope will also have plenty left in the tank when he faces Tommy Paul in the next round.
His latest opponent from the USA is a real fighter, so Norrie will need to come out with all guns blazing again.
But watch out for the progress of Carlos Alcaraz now that he is starting to find his feet on grass.
His turnaround in form is both remarkable and ominous for the others.
He struggled in an edgy five-setter against Jan-Lennard Struff in the opening round.
But since then Alcaraz has looked increasingly threatening. ‘I’m trying to get better with every match,’ he explained. And he is succeeding!
No one will want to play the super-talented 19-year-old if he continues to build on recent showings.
Jannik Sinner is next up for the Spanish sensation and that match should be a cracker!
Alcaraz has already captured Wimbledon hearts by sportingly conceding a point to his last opponent, Oscar Otte during his 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 win on Friday.
