Emma Raducanu and Sir Andy Murray Win On Centre Court!

Wimbledon

June 27, 2022

Emma Raducanu and Sir Andy Murray made it a dream come true for Centre Court spectators on the first day of Wimbledon 2022.

The British superstars thrilled the home crowds and reacted almost as if they had won Wimbledon itself.

Emma literally jumped for joy when she closed out her opener with an instinctive drop shot and a backhand cross-court volley.

It’s easy to forget that this was Raducanu’s Centre Court debut!

Last year her most memorable heroics were played out on neighbouring Court No1.

She may have won the US Open last autumn. But she had never played in the most prestigious arena of them all.

So you could understand her excitement when her game lived up to the hype once more on the big occasion.

Andy Murray has won the Wimbledon singles title twice before. But he celebrated his first-round victory as if it meant everything to him.

‘You never know when a match here is going to be your last,’ he said later, his voice shaking with emotion.

So Murray roared and Raducanu shook a clenched fist as though winning any contest at Wimbledon 2022 is the ultimate feat in tennis.

Both felt the joy and relief of success and neither were slow to show it.

That’s hardly surprising. The pressure on Raducanu and Murray to perform is absolutely massive.

But they handled the expectation superbly and had plenty of fun in the aftermath of victory.

It just doesn’t get any better than that. They both want to entertain the fans for as long as they can.

‘I just wanted to stay another day,’ Raducanu said after her 6-4, 6-4 win over the dangerous Alison van Uytvanck.

Just like last year, she is going to enjoy the ride and hope the momentum grows.

Next up is an even tougher test against the French former world number four, Caroline Garcia.

Meanwhile Andy Murray worried his fanatical followers when he dropped the first set against the stubborn Australian, James Duckworth.

But he came through 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to thrill the thousands of onlookers in the spiritual home of tennis.

Now Andy faces the big-serving American, John Isner. In the past, the Scot has always found a way through the big man when it mattered.

Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray will be back in action at Wimbledon 2022 on Wednesday. So will Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic and Alcaraz both dropped sets like Murray. But Novak beat a plucky Korean called Kwon Soon-woo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Meanwhile Spaniard Alcaraz won a marathon against Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. He is still learning on grass and will only get better.

Will you buy tickets in time to see the greatest players on the planet at the the most historic venue of them all?
