Rafael Nadal can hardly contain his excitement about the prospect of playing Wimbledon for the first time in three years.

The reigning champion of the Australian Open and Roland Garros wants to continue his Grand Slam winning streak at the All England Club.

Could the legendary Spaniard even round off his glittering career with a Calendar Slam? It’s possible.

Rafael Nadal conjuring his magic in the final stages of Wimbledon 2022 will be perfect for Centenary Year!

After all, Nadal won the most dramatic Wimbledon final ever seen when he beat Roger Federer in near-darkness in 2008.

He has already been practising on grass in Mallorca and his fitness is improving all the time.

Nadal explained: ‘I’m happy. I haven’t limped for a week and the evolution of training is progressing.

‘My intention is to try and play Wimbledon and this week has told me there is a chance. I’ve been able to train over these five days.

‘That’s progress and allows me to return to Wimbledon after three years. I’m excited about it.’

And the entire tennis world is excited about that too Rafa!

It doesn’t matter if you’re from Nadal’s native Spain, or the USA, Britain or anywhere else – Nadal is box office!

His lead in the historic race for the most majors currently makes him the greatest player of all time.

Rafa could cement that reputation with a Calendar Slam but he knows what a tough challenge lies ahead.

‘On the men’s tour, nobody has done the Grand Slam since Rod Laver,’ he pointed out. ‘Novak Djokovic came closest last year.’

And Djokovic will be desperate to stay in touch with Nadal in the battle to become the all-time-great.

The Serb currently trails his rival on 20 Grand Slam titles. But of course that is also an incredible tally.

Victory for Djokovic at Wimbledon 2022 would leave him just one behind Nadal.

Rafael Nadal against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon 2022 would be an incredible showdown.

And it would be fittingly historic in Centre Court’s Centenary Year!
