Iga Swiatek Plays Coco Gauff In Dream Final At Roland Garros

Roland Garros

June 3, 2022

Iga Swiatek will play Coco Gauff in the French Open final and tennis fans will regard this as the perfect showpiece.

The Polish player stands on the brink of history and seems unbeatable right now.

But the American has set up a fairytale showpiece at the tender age of 18.

No one can forget Emma Raducanu’s extraordinary journey at the US Open last year – proof that sporting miracles really can happen.

Brits will be hoping Raducanu can emulate that achievement at her home Grand Slam of course.

Iga Swiatek against Coco Gauff would also be a fabulous final at Wimbledon 2022.

So it’s fantastic to see both players in such sparkling form at just the right time.

No one will ever forget Coco Gauff’s comeback heroics on Centre Court three years ago.

And the girl who captured our imagination at Wimbledon is still just 18 years old.

Yet Gauff won 6-3, 6-1 against Martina Trevisan to reach her first major final.

In doing so she became the youngest Roland Garros finalist since Kim Clijsters back in 2001.

‘I think I’m in a bit of shock right now and I didn’t know how to react at the end of the match,’ Gauff said delightedly. ‘I have no words to describe how I feel.’

American tennis lovers will be thrilled to see the young star doing so well and must feel confident she can reproduce this form at Wimbledon 2022.

But Swiatek will be heavy favourite for the Roland Garros title and Wimbledon too.

And she will bring huge numbers of Polish fans to Wimbledon 2022 as she goes in search of further glory.

Former Junior Wimbledon champion Swiatek also claimed the French Open in 2020.

Now she can’t stop winning. In fact she will equal a record 35-match triumphant streak by the great Venus Williams if she prevails on Saturday.

After beating Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 in her semi-final Swiatek said: ‘It feels pretty special and emotional. I am grateful to be healthy and in that place.’

Wimbledon 2022 will also be grateful to have Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Emma Raducanu as serious contenders.

Will you be there to see the most exciting women tennis players in the world perform on grass?
