Coco Gauff is on fire and more than ready for fresh heroics at Wimbledon 2022.
She has now reached back-to-back Roland Garros quarter-finals and she is still only eighteen!
Coco Gauff can wow the Centre Court crowd once more at Wimbledon 2022!
No wonder tennis followers are going to be flying across the Atlantic this year in big numbers to follow Coco among others.
The signs are very good for the American as she continues to win new fans in Europe this summer.
Her 6-4, 6-0 victory over Elise Mertens was simply brilliant.
The opening set was an epic battle and Gauff needed all her court-craft to overcome her opponent.
First a drop shot, then a lob, and finally an all-important forehand winner got the job done.
The second set was mostly a romp as Gauff really let her hair down.
But in the final game she also needed moments of breath-taking defence to prevail with a bagel.
And this is the first big difference between Gauff in 2022 and the youngster who first captured Wimbledon hearts three years ago.
Coco is more athletic! Her lateral movement has improved immensely and that makes her even tougher to beat.
Then there is Gauff’s improved psychological strength.
She was always a fighter even when she wasn’t fully grown.
Wimbledon’s Centre Court can bear testament to her warrior spirit.
But now she is totally carefree – and that spells danger for her opponents.
Coco explained: ‘I have finished school and that feels good because it was hard to study while I was on tour.
‘I think that accomplishment is maybe bigger than many of the results I have achieved on court.
‘Also I am really enjoying myself on court now. I used to focus mostly on my results but now I am just having fun and fighting for every point.’
Wimbledon 2022 spectators will take Coco Gauff to their hearts once more.
She doesn’t intend to let the weight of expectation get to her.
‘I’m not sure who first said that pressure is a privilege but it’s true,’ she said.
And Gauff is determined to live for the moment and get the best out of every experience.
