Could Taylor Fritz Become The Next American Wimbledon Champ?

November 4, 2021

Taylor Fritz was too much for Cameron Norrie in Paris and may prove more than a handful at Wimbledon 2022.

It’s been a while since American men dominated at the All England Club.

John McEnroe, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras have all written their names in relatively recent Wimbledon history.

But for the last two decades, American men have gone a little quiet in the singles on grass.

Taylor Fritz might be about to change all that at Wimbledon 2022.

He was once hailed as the next big thing by McEnroe himself.

A few years followed when Fritz never quite fulfilled his promise. But look at him now!

The man seems to be hitting his peak. And remember, Fritz is still only just 24 years old.

Impressive Brit Norrie had notched up 50 wins for the season and was pushing for a place at the year-end finals.

In full magnificent flow, Fritz made the likeable Norrie look ordinary.

Beautiful, sweeping shots on either side and a big-gun serve that saved him two set points in the decisive second.

These are the weapons Fritz has in his armoury.

And when he is relaxed and focused, Taylor taps into that extraordinary talent and looks capable of anything.

It’s time Americans had a home-grown star to cheer at Wimbledon and Fritz could be the man.

He is in sparkling form and that started long before his win against Norrie.

Taylor has won his last three matches against top ten players, including sixth-ranked Andrey Rublev in Paris.

He had won his last four against top twenty players and his last five against top thirty stars.

The likes of Sascha Zverev and Matteo Berrettini were victims in Indian Wells.

So perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that Fritz just broke Norrie’s winning habit to give himself eleven wins in the last thirteen matches.

His 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory was achieved in true style when it really mattered.

No wonder Taylor roared so loudly when the battle was won.

And the USA has Frances Tiafoe making a big impact this year too!

This all adds up to great news for Wimbledon 2022.
