Roger Federer And Sir Andy Murray Hear Wimbledon Draw

Wimbledon

June 25, 2021

Roger Federer should be relatively pleased with the draw for his opening match at Wimbledon 2021.

But that draw has not been so kind to Andy Murray, while fellow Brit Jack Draper faces something akin to mission impossible.

Meanwhile a memorable occasion awaits another Brit wildcard, Fran Jones.

Roger Federer faces Adrian Mannarino and should progress safely.

He beat the Frenchman in straight sets at Wimbledon on Manic Monday in 2018.

But Murray now knows he will really have to hit the ground running at Wimbledon 2021.

He plays Qatar Open champion Nikoloz Basilashvili, who beat Federer on the way to that title.

Andy will have to bring his A-game from the start in his first Wimbledon match since 2017.

Wildcard Draper, just 19, will probably feel excitement and trepidation in equal measure as he faces defending champion Novak Djokovic in the first match on Centre Court on Monday.

Could Murray be last match that day in the same historic arena? We’ll have to wait a little longer to be sure.

Meanwhile Fran Jones faces Coco Gauff, who captured everyone’s imagination in 2019.

Jones is the gritty Yorkshire lass who was born with fewer fingers and toes than most of us.

The fact that she has reached this level is extraordinary and she has more than earned her right to the spotlight against one of the rising stars of our sport.

British favourite Johanna Konta will try to build on her Nottingham triumph in her opening-round contest against Katerina Siniakova.

Queen’s finalist Cameron Norrie won’t find his opening match easy against Lucas Pouille but could well push through.

If he does, Federer might eventually be waiting in the third round!

Dan Evans won’t be afraid of Andy Murray’s old doubles partner, Feliciano Lopez as he looks to make his mark on Wimbledon like never before.

The great Serena Williams will aim to get a firm foothold in the tournament when she plays Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

And women’s top seed Ashleigh Barty takes on another notable name, Carla Suarez Navarro.

Now we know the draw, we all feel that tingling sense of anticipation before Wimbledon 2021 starts on Monday!

Will you be there? We can help you with that – and every day of The Championships.

After all, who would want to miss the most emotional Wimbledon of them all?
