What Will Happen At Wimbledon 2018 And Beyond?

The New Year heralds the start of our build-up to Wimbledon 2018.
And there’s nothing more exciting than knowing that another Wimbledon Championships is only months away.
But there is plenty of tennis to be played before the highlight of the year comes around at Wimbledon.
Historic
The Grand Slams start in Australia in a matter of days, continue a few months later at Roland Garros, move on to tennis HQ at Wimbledon…and end of course with Flushing Meadows.
Anything could happen, as we all saw for ourselves in 2017. Who would have predicted that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who had both struggled with injuries, would share the Slams in 2017 to roll back the years?
To see Federer claiming another historic Wimbledon title, his eighth and the one he so coveted, was an obvious highlight . But not something we anticipated at the start of the year!
Highlight
And in 2017 we didn’t see the same woman win any of the big tournaments, never mind the majors! So you might say the women’s game is truly impossible to predict.
But here goes!
Women’s Grand Slam Predictions 2018
Simona Halep wins her first ever Slam at the Australian Open.
Garbine Muguruza wins the French Open again, to add to her triumph there in 2016.
Serena Williams wins Wimbledon 2018 to equal Margaret Court’s record 0f 24 Grand Slams.
Serena Williams wins the US Open to go clear on 25 Slams – and retires.
Yes, we think it will take Serena a couple of Grand Slams to get up to speed this year before resuming her winning habit to make more history at Wimbledon 2018!
But it will take such a monumental emotional and physical effort to win the last two Slams of the year – Wimbledon 2018 and the US Open – that she will call it a day at Christmas and decide to devote even more time to being a mother.
As for the men, we see it unfolding like this.
Roger Federer wins the Australian Open again!
Rafael Nadal recovers enough fitness to take the French Open once more.
Roger Federer wins Wimbledon 2018 to take the title for a record ninth time.
Novak Djokovic returns to form to take the US Open.
At the time of writing, Andy Murray has just pulled out of the Brisbane International tournament with that nagging hip injury. And we think it could take him until next year to hit his very best form again and start winning majors once more.
Federer still seems mentally and physically fresh. And, as he told nearly 14,000 Hopman Cup fans in Perth recently, ‘I really don’t take it for granted.’ That could be the key to his success in Melbourne and at Wimbledon 2018.
Dominant
Nadal is so dominant on clay that he will be desperate to put his knee problems behind him and make his brilliance count in Paris. We think it could happen.
So incredibly, we reckon three of the four Slams could be won by the same veterans as last year!
And although Novak Djokovic is still suffering from elbow problems at the time of writing, we have a hunch that he may finally hit top form again towards the end of the western summer and taste glory again in New York.

One thing is for sure. Tennis these days is increasingly hard to predict. And we should all feel thankful for that. So don’t put any money on our predictions!
