An American man is guaranteed to play in the showpiece at Flushing Meadows come the weekend.

Taylor had also seen gruelling action before out-gunning Zverev 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Now the whole of America and the wider tennis world can’t wait for what comes next!
