Carlos Alcaraz Heroics Are the Highlight of Team Europe’s Victory

Carlos Alcaraz provided the most memorable moments of the Laver Cup in London.
It was US Open champion Alexander Zverev who dealt the final blow to the challenge of Team World.
But in a way, that last victory was a success no one watching wanted, because it meant that Carlitos didn’t need to play again.
Carlos Alcaraz is our sport’s greatest star. He is pure box office. And thankfully he will return to London for an extended run at Wimbledon 2027.
The Spaniard, who missed out on Wimbledon this year due to a wrist injury, never ceases to entertain when given the chance.
He saved two match points against brilliant American Taylor Fritz at a time in the overall contest when Team World might still have retained the Laver Cup.
And those audacious Alcaraz drop shots were on show once more when it mattered, including at the death. How we’ll look forward to more sorcery from Carlitos at Wimbledon 2027!
After his 6-3, 4-6, 13-11 victory over Fritz took Team Europe into a 7-5 lead over Team World, Alcaraz exhibited an unashamed and almost boyish delight in his skill.
He beamed: ‘The drop shot is part of my game. In those really close and important moments, I tried to use it because it was a really good weapon for me in this match.’
When you’re capable of firing 42 winners to your opponent’s 20, that kind of sudden subtlety goes a long way.
Carlos Alcaraz will amaze and thrill us all once more at Wimbledon 2027. Will you be there to witness his magic too?
Meanwhile Zverev’s serve is still his biggest weapon, even though the rest of his game has caught up in many respects.
The powerful German closed out Europe’s 13-5 victory by seeing off Learner Tien 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 on Sunday.
‘This year we had a great team chemistry and I’m very happy that we won – but massive respect to Team World,’ he concluded.
