Alexander Zverev Reaches His First Wimbledon Final in Style
Wimbledon
July 10, 2026
Alexander Zverev demonstrated supreme poise and power when it mattered against the valiant British wild card, Arthur Fery.
There were times during the first set when it seemed that Fery could unsettle Zverev and use the Centre Court crowd to gain the upper hand.
When the German broke his serve, Arthur simply broke back – and appeared untroubled all the way to the tie-break.
That’s when Zverev took control and began to crush the hopes of his little-known adversary. Sascha soon outgunned the home hero 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4.
Alexander Zverev might even win the final of Wimbledon 2026 if he can unleash this kind of relaxed and deadly power on Sunday.
At first Fery’s incredible speed looked capable of exposing weaknesses in Sascha’s game at the net.
But the French Open winner didn’t panic. And he chose that first-set breaker to take his performance up to unmatchable levels.
Devastating serves were followed up by lethal punches to finish points early. Fery’s double fault in the breaker left the door ajar. Zverev crashed through mercilessly.
In the past, the bubbly Brit has remained untroubled by scoreboard reverses. He has managed to believe and stay in the fight until the tide turned.
This time we witnessed Arthur’s self-belief being knocked out of him ruthlessly. Fery seemed to know the game was up early in the second set, though he did salvage some pride in the third.
His usual tactic is to enlist the noisy support of the crowd to boost his own energy levels and unnerve his opponent. He did keep trying to create those moments
.But nothing seems to unnerve Zverev now that he has a Grand Slam title to his name. Sascha likes the feeling. He wants another.
Alexander Zverev will provide a formidable test for either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic on Sunday.
His passing shots were almost as venomous as that sizzling serve. And there is a dangerous freedom to his game now.
We should salute Arthur Fery and the immense entertainment he has brought us in the last fortnight. He dared to dream of a Wimbledon final – and fell just one step short of the ultimate stage.
But perhaps it is fitting that a man of Zverev’s extraordinary stature and talent should be the player to take on one of our sport’s true greats on Sunday.
