Novak Djokovic Equals Roger Federer, Americans on Centre Court

Wimbledon

July 4, 2026

Novak Djokovic has challenged Roger Federer to a showdown on Centre Court to establish which man is really king of Wimbledon singles victories.

The great Federer has one more Grand Slam title on grass – eight Wimbledon triumphs to Novak’s seven.

But the legendary pair are now both locked on 105 singles wins at the All England Club after Novak’s four-set win over Arthur Rinderknech on Friday.

Djokovic joked: ‘I propose a match-up between me and Roger for 106. Let’s just stop it here and call Roger to come!”

Novak Djokovic might find a retired Roger Federer easier to beat than his next opponent at Wimbledon 2026.

Roman Safiullin is a dangerous customer in the round of sixteen. He has already claimed seeded victims in Andrey Rublev and Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca.

Djokovic will have to be at his brilliant best to beat Federer’s win record at Wimbledon on Sunday.

But the weekend starts with some intriguing Saturday action on Centre Court. The phenomenal Iga Swiatek plays Alexandra Eala at 1.30pm.

Then we can enjoy an all-American clash between Madison Keys and last year’s finalist Amanda Anisimova.

The men’s match on Centre Court is a fascinating showdown between two popular veterans commonly regarded as the most handsome stars in tennis.

Grigor Dimitrov almost beat eventual winner Jannik Sinner last year – and was only denied by a sudden injury.

He plays Italian heartthrob Matteo Berrettini, a Wimbledon finalist five years ago and currently enjoying a storming comeback.

And could there be a late surprise on the Centre Court schedule? Serena and Venus Williams are due to play doubles somewhere today – venue “to be arranged” but “not before 4.30pm.”

If Serena recovers her fitness sufficiently, could the legendary Williams sisters be added to the Centre Court programme in the evening?

Novak Djokovic and his historic Friday win would be upstaged by an iconic appearance from Serena and Venus Williams at the spiritual home of tennis this weekend.
