Alexander Zverev Is Just One Step from Grand Slam Glory Again!

Roland Garros

June 5, 2026

Alexander Zverev must sense that the agonising wait is nearly over. Barring an upset, his dream will finally come true.

The German has a history of losing his nerve on the big occasion. He is the nearly man of tennis. The best player on tour never to win a major.

And of course, he can take nothing for granted against whichever Italian wins through to face him on Sunday. But Sascha must be the strong favourite now. Surely he can’t blow it again?

Alexander Zverev should win Roland Garros and then arrive at Wimbledon 2026 with all the weight of expectation lifted from his shoulders at long last.

That could make Sascha a dangerous proposition on grass, too. In theory, his game should be ideally suited to lawn tennis anyway.

Until now, however, his best Wimbledon efforts have resulted in three fourth-round appearances at the All England Club. At the other Slams, he has reached the final.

But Zverev has slowly matured. He has added to his game both psychologically and tactically. And he seems to know when to strike hardest these days.

The first set of his semi-final against the brilliant but very-obviously fatigued Jakub Mensik was a case in point. Sascha only broke at the business end. And he had already claimed the opener before his rival could try to recover and hit back.

With the Czech in trouble, the bigger name duly seized his moment to break again early in the second. And after that, Zverev never really looked back, despite his third-set dip.

Sascha let out a huge yell as he went 3-0 up in the fourth. And he looked particularly self-assured in his final service games as he closed out the match 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Alexander Zverev might just find the extra confidence he needs to threaten Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon 2026, after this potentially pivotal French Open journey.

And we’d love to see you there enjoying all the history and drama as the Championships unfold in their usual entertaining style.
