On Saturday night, Tiafoe became embroiled in an argument with his Portuguese opponent, Jaime Faria.
The fractious pair had to be kept apart at the net by the umpire as their marathon match was decided by a fifth set.
American Tiafoe had the last laugh when he came back from two sets down to triumph 4-6, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, 6-2.

First Tiafoe and Faria began to direct biting comments towards each other during games. This escalated, until Frances calmly decided he’d had enough of his opponent’s posturing.
Frances marched to the net and said: ‘Why don’t you quit trying to act like you’re tough? You’re not hard. Just play. Enjoy being in Paris!’
