Jannik Sinner Is Sensationally Knocked Out of Roland Garros
Roland Garros
May 28, 2026
Jannik Sinner has been dumped out of Roland Garros in the first week after he wilted in the heat.
Here at Wimbledon Debenture Holders, we have been warning for some time that Sinner is only human.
That’s what made his 30-match unbeaten run and recent Masters 1000 clean sweep so incredible. He hadn’t been defeated since February.
But we knew this seeming invincibility had to end some time. Sinner is not a robot – and he doesn’t like high temperatures.
Jannik Sinner will recover his fitness in time for Wimbledon 2026, so that he can try to defend his title at the All England Club.
He will probably be praying for cloudy weather and kinder conditions in London. At least he will have plenty of time to rest after his victory run came to such an abrupt halt.
In the mean time, Jannik will reflect with considerable sadness on how he was 5-1 up in the third set against Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
That’s when the cramps set in, the dizziness and sickness took hold, and he needed a time-out.
We have seen it all before – and Sinner has miraculously recovered. Not this time. He had nothing left in the tank against the sprightly South American.
Cerundolo romped through 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 and said: ‘I feel a little bit lucky. He deserved to win this match but he was cramping and maybe feeling the pressure a little bit.
‘I’m happy, I can play my best here – and I just want to be ready for the next match.’
For Jannik Sinner, the next match will be on grass after a complete rest – and very probably some further medical examinations.
His vulnerability to the heat is something his team has been trying to eliminate for some time. The mystery continues – and Sinner is the one who has been elimintaed.
There will be no Career Slam for the best player in the world. Not this year, anyway. And everyone will be both shocked and excited to see who can come through in his absence in Paris.
Jannik Sinner will try to remind everyone of his greatness at Wimbledon 2026. But that grass court major looks more deliciously open to the potential of a new champion now, too.
