Katie Boulter is the British woman commanding most attention on the WTA Tour right now.
A mouth-watering showdown with classy American Jessica Pegula awaits in Madrid.
But just as memorable will be her doubles experience alongside the legendary Venus Williams.
Katie Boulter will hope her growing confidence in the limelight can help her go deep at Wimbledon 2026 this summer too.
For now her dedication is paying dividends on the Spanish clay.
Boulter just recorded only her second career win in Madrid by defeating another American, Taylor Townsend.
That 6-4, 6-2 victory took an hour and thirty-three minutes – and included four breaks in a dominant display.
But she knows it will be much tougher against the formidable Pegula, who is fifth seed in Spain and just won the Charleston tournament.
Katie explained: ‘She’s a great player and very in-form. It’s a massive challenge for me – but I have nothing to lose.
‘I can have a go at someone on a surface I don’t love – and I’m going to try to play my way.’
Boulter may not love clay – but she is certainly making progress. She added: ‘I feel like my confidence is building on this surface.
‘I do think I’m getting stronger and believing more coming out of the corners. I think I’m improving match by match.’
Katie Boulter will also be teaming up with Wimbledon legend Venus Williams in the Madrid doubles. Could they do the same at Wimbledon 2026?
For now, popular Katie will just savour her surprising association with Venus and said:. ‘She’s an absolute icon.
‘I’m so excited to be playing with her. It’s going to be a dream come true for a little girl who once looked up to her.’
